David Beumee - Earth Alchemy Pottery

Biography

David Beumée, named one of the ten most significant
Colorado artists at the Kirkland Museum in Denver.

--Denver Post, December 21, 2003

I grew up in Billings and Red Lodge, Montana and completed my
education in 1979 with a B.A. in Art from Montana State University.
At the time of graduation I maintained a studio in Bozeman and began
producing wheel thrown porcelain, fired to cone 6 in an electric kiln. I
also taught pottery classes and worked full and part time jobs until I
moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1981. I shared a studio in Boulder until I
relocated to Lafayette, Colorado
and my present surroundings. In 1983 I began my effort to produce wheel thrown porcelain as a sole means of support. I continued producing oxidation-fired pottery in an electric kiln until 1990, when I acquired a large gas-fired kiln. Since that time I have fired to cone 10 and 11 in a reducing atmosphere, a change that has opened new worlds of subtlety of glaze color possibilities. In December 1997 I realized a long-term dream and occupied a new studio and gallery built over the site of my original Lafayette studio. In 1999 I founded the East Boulder County Studio Tour, an annual self-guided tour of artist studios in the Colorado cities of Lafayette, Louisville, Longmont, Erie, and Superior. www.ebcacolorado.org
