Biography
David
Beumée, named one of the ten most significant
Colorado artists at the Kirkland Museum in Denver.

I grew
up in Billings and Red Lodge, Montana and completed my
education
in 1979 with a B.A. in Art from Montana State University.
At the time of graduation I maintained a studio
in Bozeman and began
producing wheel thrown porcelain, fired to
cone 6 in an electric kiln. I
also taught pottery classes and
worked full and part time jobs until I
moved to Boulder, Colorado
in 1981. I shared a studio in Boulder until
I
relocated to
Lafayette, Colorado
and my present surroundings. In 1983 I began my
effort to produce wheel thrown porcelain as a sole means of
support. I continued producing oxidation-fired pottery in
an electric kiln until 1990, when I acquired a large gas-fired
kiln. Since that time I have fired to cone 10 and 11 in a
reducing atmosphere, a change that has opened new worlds of
subtlety of glaze color possibilities. In December 1997 I
realized a long-term dream and occupied a new studio and
gallery built over the site of my original Lafayette studio. In
1999 I founded the East Boulder County Studio Tour, an annual
self-guided tour of artist studios in the Colorado cities of Lafayette,
Louisville, Longmont, Erie, and Superior. Our ninth annual Tour,
to be held in May 2008, will include the talents of 35 artists in a wide variety of artistic
media. www.bouldercountyartists.com
